Tanzania affirms its position as major trade gateway for Zambian businesses

NDOLA: TANZANIA is seeking to strengthen its position as a preferred trade gateway for Zambian businesses as the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), together with port operators DP World and Tanzania East Africa Gateway Terminal Limited (TEAGTL), engages the country’s business community on improved port services and new trade opportunities.

The engagement, held on September 22 and 23, 2026, brought together Tanzanian port and transport stakeholders with Zambian businesses and industry representatives to identify challenges affecting the use of Tanzania’s ports and explore ways of improving services and trade flows.

According to information from TPA, the initiative included strategic customer visits on September 22, during which the Tanzanian delegation met Zambian traders and other stakeholders to understand their needs and concerns and discuss measures to increase the use of Tanzanian ports.

Additionally, a stakeholder meeting held the following day at Protea Hotel in Ndola brought together government representatives, public institutions, cargo terminal operators, transport companies, business community representatives and trade associations for further discussions on improving the trade corridor.

The Tanzanian delegation included TPA, port operators and key transport and trade institutions, including the Tanzania Embassy in Zambia, Tanzania Revenue Authority, TASAC, Central Corridor, PBPA, GCLA, Tanzania Shippers’ Association, TAFFA, TACAS, Sinotaship and TATOA.
