TanTrade promotes local products identity

MWANZA: THE Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) has urged manufacturers and traders to adopt the “Made in Tanzania” logo, saying stronger product branding will boost competitiveness, expand export opportunities and strengthen the identity of locally made goods.

Speaking at the ongoing Nanenane Exhibition at Nyamhongolo Grounds in Mwanza, TanTrade Lake Zone Manager Cecilia Mwandepa said the trademark enables consumers to identify locally produced goods while enhancing product visibility and market confidence.

“The Made in Tanzania logo enables buyers to easily identify locally produced goods while enhancing the value and credibility of products manufactured in the country,” she said.

Ms Mwandepa said some manufacturers have yet to adopt the logo, limiting their ability to benefit from stronger product identification, particularly in markets where buyers increasingly seek information on product origin.

She said TanTrade is intensifying awareness campaigns and working to simplify registration procedures to encourage more businesses to use the national mark.

To qualify, businesses must be formally registered, manufacture products in Tanzania and meet certification requirements before applying through TanTrade’s digital platform.

The initiative supports Tanzania’s drive to expand industrial production and exports, in line with this year’s Nanenane theme, “Recognise the Market, Increase Productivity to Implement Vision 2050.”
