Mumbai, INDIA: A new film promoting Tanzania’s tourism attractions, titled “Tantalizing Tanzania,” and featuring Indian musician Shakti Mohan, has been launched in Mumbai, India. The film showcases iconic Tanzanian destinations, including Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Zanzibar.
Produced by Mumbai-based Swahili Company, the film was officially launched by Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana, alongside Zanzibar’s Minister for Tourism and Antiquities, Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga.
The event, held on December 14, 2024, was organized by Swahili Safari—a company facilitating tourism between India and Tanzania—in collaboration with the Tanzanian Embassy in India.
Dr. Chana highlighted Tanzania’s remarkable tourism growth, referencing the January 2024 United Nations World Tourism Organization (WTO) barometer. According to the report, Tanzania welcomed a record-breaking 1.8 million tourists in 2023—a 24.3% increase from 2022. This surge contributed to tourism revenue reaching approximately $3.4 billion, underscoring the resilience and expansion of Tanzania’s tourism sector.
She emphasized the importance of “Tantalizing Tanzania” as a tool for raising awareness of Tanzania as a premier tourist destination for Indian travelers, with 44,438 Indian tourists visiting the country in 2023. Dr. Chana also took the opportunity to highlight Tanzania’s natural and cultural wealth, as well as its scenic coastal beaches on both the mainland and Zanzibar. She encouraged investment in the tourism sector, including opportunities in accommodation services within conservation areas and cities, development of beach resorts, and expansion of entertainment services.
Zanzibar’s Minister for Tourism and Antiquities, Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga, commended the filmmakers for authentically capturing Tanzania’s attractions and noted that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to boost tourism in the country.
The event was attended by several notable figures, including Tanzania’s Ambassador to India, Anisa Mbega; the Chairman of the Tanzania Tourism Board, Ambassador Dr. Ramadhani Dau; the Director of the Tanzania Tourism Board, Mr. Ephraim Mafuru; the Executive Secretary of the Zanzibar Tourism Commission, Mr. Arif Abbas Manji; a representative from Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL); Directors of Swahili Safari India; and members of the local community in Mumbai, India.
