TANROADS tasked to complete Kona ya Nairobi–Kisongo, Kona ya Nairobi–Kilombero Market roads projects by Dec, 2026

ARUSHA: THE Deputy Minister for Works Engineer Godfrey Kasekenya has directed the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) to closely supervise the contractor constructing the Kona ya Nairobi–Kisongo and Kona ya Nairobi–Kilombero Market roads and ensure the projects are completed by December this year.

Speaking while inspecting construction progress on the roads, Engineer Kasekenya stressed the importance of cooperation among public institutions in achieving the government’s infrastructure development goals.

“AFCON is an important opportunity for the country. If these roads are completed to the required standards, they will not only ease transportation during the tournament but also expand Arusha’s road network and create economic opportunities. The President’s directive is that these projects should not stall and must be completed on time. For us, on time means December this year,” Kasekenya said.

The road projects also include pedestrian walkways and street lighting aimed at modernising Arusha city and making it more attractive.

“AFCON will be held for a short period, but the infrastructure will remain and serve people for a long time,” Engineer Kasekenya added.

Kasekenya also directed institutions responsible for water, electricity and telecommunications services to work closely with contractors to expedite the relocation of underground infrastructure, including pipes and cables, in construction areas so that the work can proceed at the required pace.

For his part, TANROADS Arusha Regional Manager Engineer Reginald Masawe assured the Deputy Minister that the agency would ensure the projects are completed on schedule.

He said construction is currently being carried out during both daytime and night-time shifts to accelerate progress and ensure that residents can benefit from the roads economically and socially.
