TANOIL management suspended over embezzlement

Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) board of directors has decided to suspend Tanzania National Oil (TANOIL) as an internal audit report unveils embezzlements at the office.
Tanoil is a TPDC subsidiary company that undertakes oil trading business, represents the government’s interests on behalf of cooperation in all oil-related mid and downstream activities and projects along the petroleum value chain.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Energy, the suspended officials were the general manager, Mr Kapuulya Musomba and finance and administration manager, James Batamuzi.
Others are petroleum storage manager Sudi Abdallah and distribution and operations manager, Amour Marine.
Following the suspension, an interim management team will now run Tanoil.
The findings of the audit are expected to be delivered to the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) for appropriate action.
“Apart from this step, the TPDC Board has also started implementing the recommendations of the auditor’s report on improving controls and preparing a new business plan for Tanoil,” read the statement.
