TANESCO orders its PRI department to speed up implementation of projects using technology, local expertise

MWANZA: THE Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has urged its Research, Planning and Investment (PRI) Department to accelerate the implementation of strategic plans and projects, emphasizing the use of technology, local expertise, and strict adherence to timelines and contractual obligations to improve project execution efficiency.

The call was made by TANESCO Geita Regional Manager, Engineer Jahulula Jahulula, who represented the TANESCO Lake Zone Director at the closing of a four-day working session of the Research, Planning and Investment Department (PRI Forum) held at the Rock City Hotel in Mwanza.

“Your department is the engine of TANESCO because the planning of major electricity generation and transmission projects, as well as research and investment initiatives, begins with the work carried out by your department. Its success therefore plays a major role in taking TANESCO and the nation to greater heights,” Engineer Jahulula said.

He commended PRI staff for their contribution to the implementation and completion of various strategic projects, including the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), with an installed capacity of 2,115 megawatts; the Kishapu Solar Power Project; the Chalinze-Dodoma electricity transmission line; and the signing of a contract for the construction of a 220kV transmission line from Mpomvu to the Geita Gold Mining (GGM) mine.

He said through the PRI Department, TANESCO was also implementing regional electricity transmission projects, including the Tanzania-Zambia Interconnector (TAZA).

Preparations are also underway to interconnect Tanzania’s electricity system with those of Malawi, Mozambique, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, he said.

“Each one of us should now understand that the Corporation depends on us, and the country depends on us. Continue working hard with patriotism and integrity,” Engineer Jahulula said.

The four-day PRI Forum brought together officials to review strategic plans, projects and investment initiatives while focusing on measures to improve efficiency in the implementation of TANESCO’s development programmes.
