TANESCO schedules six-day maintenance to support Chalinze–Dodoma Power Project

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has announced a scheduled six-day power supply interruption affecting several areas within the Morogoro and Tanga regions from July 9 to July 14, 2026.

This layout is necessary to facilitate critical wire stringing operations along the 33kV power line in the Morogoro area, a key step to pave the way for the implementation of the ongoing 400kV Chalinze–Dodoma Transmission Line Project.

According to an official statement issued by the utility firm on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, this exercise is highly vital to ensure that the strategic Chalinze–Dodoma infrastructure project is completed successfully within its designated timeframe. To guarantee safety during the execution of these works, power supply will be switched off daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM throughout the specified dates.

The suspension of service will affect the Mkulazi feeder, directly impacting the Mkulazi Factory. It will also affect the extensive Turiani feeder, which encompasses several districts across both regions.

In Mvomero District, the affected areas include Wami Sokoine, the Office of the District Commissioner, the Mvomero Halmashauri Office, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Station, and all villages within the wards of Dakawa, Mvomero, Kinda, Maskati, Hembeti, Mkindo, Sungaji, Mhonda, Kweuma, Diongoya, Mtibwa, Kanga, Mziha, Pemba, and Kibati.

In Kilosa District, the interruption will hit Dumila, Kitete, Ukaguru, Mfuru, Madudu, Mabana, Mateteni, Mbigiri, and all neighboring villages within the Magole Division.

Additionally, the outage will extend to parts of Tanga region, affecting several villages within Kilindi District including Kikunde, Kwekivu, Ludewa, Tunguli, Namtoro, and adjacent areas, alongside various villages located in Gairo District.

TANESCO extends its sincere apologies to all affected customers, businesses, and institutions for any inconvenience that will be caused by these essential technical improvements.

In the interest of public safety, the corporation strongly cautions all members of the community never to touch, handle, or approach any fallen or hanging electrical wires and cables during this period, advising instead that any such incidents be reported immediately to the utility company’s emergency teams.
