The visit, which included energy development partners and senior energy officials, provided an opportunity to inspect and evaluate the ongoing projects under REA’s implementation.

Amb Kingu said that the arrival of electricity in rural communities presents a unique chance for residents to establish small-scale industries and engage in productive economic activities.

“The arrival of electricity in your areas has significantly improved your quality of life. Instead of using it only for household lighting, you now have the opportunity to start income-generating activities such as sunflower oil processing, metal welding, or even running salons for men and women. These ventures can increase your income and greatly enhance your livelihoods,” he advised.

He continued, “Various development partners are supporting us in these efforts and we are truly grateful for their involvement. Therefore, it is crucial that these efforts are not wasted. Make the best use of this infrastructure and take good care of it for your benefit and for future generations.”

He said that the agency would continue to raise public awareness about the benefits of adopting clean cooking solutions.

On behalf of the energy development partners, Mr Isdory Fitwangile from the Norwegian Embassy expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects in Matumbo and Makuro, commending REA for its excellent work.

“Our goal is to support the government in delivering development to its people. When we see the effective implementation of such projects, it reassures us that funds are being utilised appropriately, which encourages us to continue supporting you,” he said.

Earlier, the delegation visited a water well in Matumbo village, where the Village Chairperson, Juma Maloda, said that approximately 6,000 residents’ benefit from the project.

The electrification of the well has significantly reduced operating costs, from 700,000/- when the water pump machine was powered by diesel, to just 150,000/-.

Meanwhile, the Medical Officer in Charge at Makuro Health Centre, Oscar Samata, said that medical equipment worth 160m/- had long remained unused due to a lack of power.

However, since the installation of electricity by REA, the equipment is now operational, benefiting residents from the ward’s seven villages and neighbouring communities.
