DAR ES SALAAM: TAIFA Stars have pledged to give their utmost effort throughout the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals, determined to excel on home soil and make the nation proud.
Tanzania will kick off the tournament against Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, with the match scheduled to start at 8:00 PM today. This game marks the inaugural event of the month-long competition.
Coach Hemed Suleiman expressed confidence in his squad’s capabilities and emphasised their focused preparations. “We are entering the competition with a strong and balanced team, combining experienced players with talented youngsters who have established excellent chemistry.
“Our recent performances have been promising and we will fight with everything we have to achieve our goals,” Suleiman stated.
He acknowledged that every participating nation aspires for glory and Taifa Stars aim to fulfil the dreams of many Tanzanians by keeping the title at home.
“Our commitment is clear: We aim to win this tournament. Every team competing share the same ambition and our preparations reflect that goal,” Suleiman said.
Following the opening match, Tanzania will face Mauritania on August 6, Madagascar on August 9 and the Central African Republic on August 16 as part of the group stage.
Goalkeeper Aishi Manula discussed the unique significance of this year’s CHAN for Taifa Stars, especially given the high expectations of Tanzanian fans.
“This tournament feels very different from previous editions, where we often exited early. As hosts, the hopes of the nation rest on our shoulders and we fully appreciate the love and expectations of our supporters,” Manula said.
