Taifa Cup netball tour gathers storm

DAR ES SALAAM: TAIFA Cup Netball League pitting twelve women’s teams from Tanzania Mainland and Isles to be staged at Gymkhana court in Zanzibar on August 28th this year.

The competition promises to be a riveting display of athleticism and teamwork, bringing together some of the finest netball players from all regions of Tanzania.

Six teams are from Tanzania Mainland and six others from Zanzibar.

Tanzania Netball Association’s General Secretary, Rose Mapugilo, expressed her anticipation for the forthcoming event, confirming that Tanzania Mainland will field a robust representation of six teams in the league.

“We are expected to travel on August 26th directly to Zanzibar for the registration process of the tournament, and we are traveling with six teams because the league will involve twelve teams, six teams from Zanzibar and six teams from Tanzania Mainland,” she said.

Rose emphasized on unity and friendship in this competition.

“We are insisting that our teams should make sure they present Tanzania Mainland well and return home a trophy and that is a symbol of our unity,” she said.

To his side the Assistant Secretary Fredrick Apiuwa said preparation for the tournament is going on well and on August 26th this year we expect to receive six teams from the Mainland.

“The official guest of the tournament will be the Isles’ Ministry of Information Youth Culture And Sports, Tabia Maulid Mwita who will grace the tournament’s opening  on August 28th this  while Isles First Lady, Mariam Mwinyi grace the climax on September 7th the same venue,” Apiuwa revealed.

He said the tournament aims to promote the game,  foster sporting excellence while it also serves as a crucial platform for selecting the national team to represent Tanzania in the African tournament later this year.
