TAG launches ambitious plan to build modern hospitals across TZ

MOROGORO: THE Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG) Church has unveiled a comprehensive and long-term plan to construct 32 modern hospitals across the country, as part of its efforts to complement the government’s goal of improving access to quality healthcare for all citizens.

TAG’s Deputy Archbishop, Dr Magnus Mhiche, made the announcement recently at Mkundi in Morogoro Municipality during the official launch of the site where Uzima Hospital will be built.

This hospital is among the 32 planned facilities—one for each region on the Tanzanian mainland and in Zanzibar.

Dr Mhiche said that the Church is currently working with various stakeholders, including its partners, to determine the actual costs of construction and ensure efficient implementation of the project.

“The construction of Uzima Hospital in Morogoro will significantly improve access to quality health services for residents in this area,” said Dr Mhiche.

“This is a major project involving millions of shillings and once completed, it will benefit the people of Morogoro and many Tanzanians at large.”

He added that construction of the Morogoro hospital is expected to begin this year, with completion slated for next year.

The Church aims to have all 32 hospitals fully built and operational by 2033.

“We are pleased that the vision of our Archbishop, Dr Barnabas Mtokambali, is no longer just a dream, it is becoming a reality,” Dr Mhiche added.

Dr Christopher Magomba, General Secretary of Bethel Revival Temple (BRT) Church, emphasised that the project demonstrates TAG’s genuine commitment to supporting the government in strengthening the healthcare sector.

“Once completed, these hospitals will bring much-needed relief and help save lives by providing accessible and quality medical care from trained professionals,” he said.

Dr Magomba also noted that Uzima Hospital will feature emergency care services and seven residential houses for staff, making it a fully equipped and sustainable facility.

Representing the Morogoro Regional Medical Officer, Dr Johanes Rwenyagila commended TAG Church for the initiative, noting that Uzima Hospital will increase the number of public and private hospitals in the region to 25.

“This project will not only improve healthcare delivery but also create employment opportunities for Tanzanians, especially in the Morogoro region,” said Dr Rwenyagila.

“The government has created a supportive environment for stakeholders who wish to invest in healthcare and we are ready to collaborate fully to ensure the physical and spiritual well-being of our people.”

Local residents, including Emmanuel Deus and Anitha Mvile of Mkundi Ward, also expressed their gratitude to the TAG Church leadership for bringing vital healthcare services closer to their community and for partnering with the government to improve rural health infrastructure.
