TADB hailed for supporting livestock, fisheries development

DODOMA: THE Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Ambassador Dr Bashiru Ally Kakurwa has met with the Managing Director of the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) to hold discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and the Bank, and to urge the Bank to continue supporting the development of projects in the livestock and fisheries sectors.
The discussions were held today, 27 January 2026, at the Ministry’s sub-office located at Kambarage Tower in Dodoma. The Managing Director of TADB paid a courtesy call to introduce himself to the Minister for Livestock and Fisheries and to enhance collaboration between the Ministry and TADB in advancing the livestock and fisheries sectors.
During the discussions, Ambassador Dr Bashiru commended TADB for its continued cooperation with the Ministry and directed the Bank to expand its support to small-scale livestock keepers by providing affordable loans to enable them to develop their projects. He also emphasized the need to increase the participation of financial institutions, through TADB, in providing loans to the livestock and fisheries sectors.
On his part, the Managing Director of TADB, Mr Frank Nyabundege, congratulated Ambassador Dr Bashiru Ally Kakurwa on his appointment as a Member of Parliament and Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, and pledged to accelerate the provision of loans to the livestock and fisheries sectors, particularly for projects targeting youth and women.
Furthermore, Mr Nyabundege presented a brief report on TADB’s involvement in the development of the livestock and fisheries sectors in Tanzania. He noted that, as a policy bank, TADB works closely with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in implementing various development projects in these sectors. These include loans for fishing boat projects, cage fish farming, and youth loans under the BBT Livestock Programme.
Through the fishing boat and cage farming projects, TADB received a total of 34.9bn/- for project implementation. To date, 29.83bn/- has been disbursed to 5,932 beneficiaries across 16 regions of the country.
In addition, TADB, in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, has successfully facilitated the provision of a total of 219 boats and 536 fish cages to project beneficiaries.
Through the BBT Livestock youth programme, a total of 847.3m/- has been disbursed to 106 beneficiaries in the form of interest-free loans.
Mr Nyabundege further added that TADB has also played a role in providing loans within the dairy sub-sector through its TI3P Project, under which 40bn/- has been disbursed to livestock keepers and dairy processors nationwide. Moreover, through the TI3P Project, TADB has successfully rehabilitated and constructed 23 milk collection centers valued at 1.1bn/-, in collaboration with livestock keepers, the Ministry, local government authorities, and dairy processors.
