Tabora saves 132m/- on health projects

TABORA: TABORA has saved 132m/- from a 700m/- health budget allocated for projects in Ipuli and Itonjanda wards, with the projects completed on time. Tabora District Commissioner, Ms Upendo Wella revealed this while addressing municipality’s technical staff and officials yesterday.

“I commend our experts, including the municipal engineer, for supervising these projects properly. You have done very good work at Manoleo Dispensary in Itonjanda Ward and Mile Five Health Centre in Ipuli Ward,” she said.

Ms Wella said the government continues to channel billions of shillings into development projects, but poor supervision has slowed implementation in some areas.

She awarded the municipal engineer 200,000/- as an incentive for coordinating and supervising the projects, saying the outcome demonstrated value for money and reflected the quality of work delivered.

Tabora Municipal Council Executive Director, Dr John Pima said the completed projects comprise a laundry building at Manoleo Dispensary in Itonjanda Ward and the expansion of infrastructure at Mile Five Health Centre in Ipuli Ward.

He said the Manoleo project was allocated 50m/-, but due to effective coordination by the officer in charge and the construction committee, only 43m/- was used, leaving 7m/-.

The 675m/- expansion at Mile Five Health Centre, covering a maternity ward, an X-ray building, an incinerator, a sewerage system and electricity installation has been completed 100 per cent, Pima said.

“About 550m/- has been spent on this project, leaving 125m/-. This is something to be proud of, and we are giving all of them certificates of appreciation for the good work they have done,” he said.

Ipuli Ward Councillor, Mr Molo Juma thanked the District Commissioner, the Executive Director and the Mayor for the reward given to staff of Mile Five Health Centre and Manoleo Dispensary, saying it would boost their morale to perform even better.
