T20 World: TZ Ladies sail to final vs Uganda

TANZANIA U-19 Ladies advanced to the final round of ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers after beating Rwanda by a single run at Botswana Cricket Association Oval 1 in Gaborone yesterday.

Tanzania Women won the toss and chose to bat in the encounter.

They fought well and registered 115 runs in all 20 allocated overs.

Rwanda who came second to bat, fought bravery in their chase attempting to chase the target, but they ended with 114 runs all out in 20 overs.

Following the victory, Tanzania will meet Uganda, who command Group B, to secure a ticket for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa.

The winner will grab a ticket to play in the World Cup proper in South Africa.

Nine teams contested for the Africa Qualifier’s final slot in South Africa.

Group A consisted of Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Malawi and Mozambique, while Group B involved Uganda, Namibia, Sierra Leone, and hosts Botswana.

Tanzania had an incredible journey, thrashing all the group’s members only tough game was with  Rwanda who lost by one run.

Tanzania beat Nigeria by 115 runs, Malawi by 98 runs and Mozambique by nine wickets.

In yesterday’s encounter, Tanzanian victory was initiated by teamwork spirit.

 Saumu Hussein scored 37 runs from 45 balls, and Agnes Qwele collected two wickets like her fellow teammate Sheila Kizito.

Rwanda, who fought fiercely to turn around the scoreboard, saw Gisele Ishimwe scoring 32 runs from 38 balls, Merveille Uwase collected 24 runs from 36 balls and Henriette Ishimwe scored 27 runs from 22 balls.

All the qualifying games took place in Gaborone, Botswana, from September 3rd to 12th.

The winner will join other qualifiers; Indonesia, Scotland, UAE and USA in securing the spots left open to regional qualifiers.
