In a bid to improve the working environment in the education sector, Swala Solutions and Barrick North Mara Gold Mine have handed over a 120m/- modern house for teachers in Matongo secondary school in Tarime District, Mara Region.
Matongo Councilor, Mr Godfrey Kegoye said in a statement at the handing over event on Wednesday that the house and the other two currently under construction will greatly help in addressing challenges facing teachers of few accommodations.
He said Matongo Secondary School has 12 teachers including nine males and three females assigned to attend to 228 students in the compound.
“We thank our stakeholders in particular North Mara Barrick Gold Mine for providing a modernised house which for sure is an important help for the school,” he said.
Mr Kegoye, who is also a District Commissioner, said Barrick Gold has been the catalyst in developing the education sector in Matongo village and all around the Tarime District which has so far become fruitful.
North Mara Barrick Gold Acting Relations Department Manager, Mr Hermence Christopher commended their joint venture with Swala Solutions and said the cooperation will boost development in the area since it pushes others to donate.
“Our partnership will be a catalyst in bringing about development in the Tarime since we are pushing other development stakeholders to donate from their benefits to support the community,” said Mr Christopher.
He said Barrick has been contributing to development in the area including covering the implementation of various development projects through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
Earlier, the school’s Headmaster, Mr Zbron Orege stressed that the number of houses provided for the teaching staff has so far reached four.
On his part, the Swala Solution’s Acting Operations Manager, Mr Roy Kimutai commended the support given by Barrick and the Local Government Authorities in the implementation of the project saying the cooperation will promote development within Tarime district.
The handing over occasion which was followed by the launching was summoned by various government and public sectors including Matongo’s Ward Councilor, teachers, the Director of Nyamongo Contractors and Mine Company Limited, Mr Samwel Bagen who had also provided two computers to the school.
On his part, Swala Solutions Acting Operations Manager, Roy Kimutai said commended North Mara Barrick Gold for their readiness to cooperate in supporting the improvement of education in the district.
