‘Support govt efforts to bring development to people’

Minister for Works, Mr Abdallah Ulega

KILIMANJARO: THE Minister for Works, Mr Abdullah Ulega, has urged Tanzanians to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts to bring development to the people.

Minister Ulega called on Tanzanians, including government employees, public institution staff and citizens in general, to back these initiatives which are gaining recognition internationally by working hard and ensuring the sustainability of government projects for the benefit of both current and future generations.

Minister Ulega made these remarks over the weekend in Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region, while inspecting the Kikafu Bridge area, part of the Arusha-HoliliTaveta-Voi main highway project.

“President Samia’s efforts are clear for all to see. Recently, President William Ruto of Kenya praised President Samia as one of Africa’s most capable leaders.

We must all commit ourselves to supporting her efforts because joining forces with her and working hard will lead to great development successes for our country,” he stated.

Commenting on the Arusha to Holili road project, Ulega emphasised that it is one of the key infrastructure projects being implemented by the government to expand economic opportunities.

He said such projects will contribute to the growth of both the national economy and individual livelihoods. “This project is one of several infrastructure initiatives already in progress and others are in the pipeline.

All are aimed at unlocking economic opportunities that will accelerate national development,” he added.

Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads), Engineer Mohamed Besta, provided details on the road rehabilitation project.

He explained that the Arusha-Holili-Taveta-Voi Road rehabilitation will span 75.326 kilometres and include a detailed design review and the construction of the 500-metre-long Kikafu Bridge.

In a statement delivered on his behalf by project engineer Manger Rajab, Eng Besta further said that the project will include 4 kilometres of link roads on both sides of the bridge and the construction of a 12.1-kilometre, four-lane road from Maili Sita to Kiboriloni, passing through Moshi Town.

During the inspection, the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Mr Nurdin Babu, said that the completion of the project would significantly contribute to the region’s economic growth by increasing investment opportunities.

He praised the government for its ongoing investment in the region, noting that large sums of money had been allocated for various developmental activities, including those in the health, education, road infrastructure and clean water sectors.

“Over the past three years, under President Samia’s leadership, the government has allocated 915bn/- for development activities in Kilimanjaro Region,” he said, adding; “This amount far exceeds the 358bn/- that the region continues to utilise as part of its quota in the 2024/25 national budget.”
