Sumbawanga to benefit from WB’s 50bn/- for projects

THE government will allocate 50bn/- for implementation of various projects including rehabilitation of 13 kilometers of roads at asphalt level in Sumbawanga Municipality in Rukwa Region for a period of five years from 2022 / 2023 financial year, thanks to World Bank, it has been disclosed.

Sumbawanga Municipal Council Mayor Mr Justine Malisawa told journalists  on Thursday here, saying the rehabilitation of road project will cost 22bn/-.

He further explained that several projects were earmarked for implementation including construction of modern market complex at the cost of 18bn/-.

“The government has so far allocated about 18bn/- during 2022/2023 FY for the construction of a modern market complex at Kanondo area in Sumbawanga municipality. The project involves construction of 400 business stalls, cereal storage facilities and other key structures,” he explained.

The projects would be financed by the World Bank (WB) under Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructures and Competitiveness (TACTIC) project.

Sumbawanga municipal council is among the 45 cities in the country financed through TACTIC projects.
