Sugar firm’s ICT Empowerment project benefits 1,000 students

MOROGORO: KILOMBERO Sugar Company has officially launched a School ICT Empowerment Program, a community-driven initiative aimed at advancing digital education in secondary schools across the Kilombero Valley.
The program is expected to benefit more than 1,000 students, in line with Tanzania’s national agenda for digital learning.
In its first phase, the beneficiaries are Nyange Secondary School (Kilombero District) and Lyahila Secondary School (Kilosa District). The company has donated 35 desktop computers, 10 desks, and technical support from its ICT department to strengthen the schools’ digital capacity.
Speaking at the launch, Ms Diana Mwakitwange, Human Resources Director at Kilombero Sugar, said the initiative aligns with the National Digital Education Strategy 2024/25–2029/30 and the National Artificial Intelligence Guidelines for Education, both of which aim to transform Tanzania’s education sector.

He emphasized that the program is sustainable and will be implemented in phases with continuous monitoring of impact.
Mr Dunstan Kyobya, Kilombero District Commissioner, who officiated as the guest of honor, praised Kilombero Sugar for its contribution and urged other stakeholders to support efforts to strengthen digital education in Tanzania.
Expressing gratitude, Mr Gabriel Lyaluu, Headmaster of Nyange Secondary School, said the support had come at the right time. Meanwhile, Ms Amina Ally, a Form Four student at Lyahila Secondary School, expressed her excitement, noting that the new computers would help her explore ICT opportunities and enhance her studies.
The program is set to expand further, reaching more schools in the Kilombero Valley, while complementing Tanzania’s broader digital education transformation agenda.
