ABOUT 150 students from Sudan’s University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST), have been admitted at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) for their final academic year, MNH Executive Director, Prof Mohamed Janabi said on Monday.
Prof Janabi told reporters in Dar es Salaam, the decision is a result of the ongoing conflict in Sudan between the state military and armed militants. The conflict has disrupted social service, shutting down Sudanese universities and halted more economic activities.
“These students are in their fifth year of their first degree. At that level their training is mostly practical … they will be here and they will be rotating in various departments including the surgical department under the supervision of specialists,” said Prof Janabi.
The student doctors will receive equal opportunity as locals, Prof Janabi said.
