Stop secret campaigns for mayoral, council chairmanship, Wassira warns

TANGA: THE Vice Chairman of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Mainland Tanzania, Stephen Wasira, has warned some councilor candidates in various areas of the country to stop maneuvering for council chairmanships and mayoral positions ahead of the upcoming elections and instead focus on seeking votes from the party.
Speaking to CCM members in the Tanga region on Thursday, he urged candidates to put more effort into seeking a resounding victory for the Party, particularly for its presidential candidate, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“I have heard that some councilors have already started campaigning for council chairmanships even though they haven’t yet been elected. How will you know if you’ll be elected, and you’re already chasing a chairmanship?,” he asked.

He added,” Stop rushing for council chairmanships. First, let’s get elected, and then matters of council chairmanship will follow later.”
Elaborating, Mr Wasira noted that even the position of mayor is decided through higher-level Party meetings, while warning that onceit is discovered that a councilor had started campaigning prematurely, the Party would not hesitate to disqualify them from vying for the posts.
