She  noted that accountants and auditors have  made a 50 year history  thus  they should ask themselves what they are going to do  in the  next  50  years to the professional sustainable .

Prof Temu further said that, NBAA has showed example by taking international accounts tenders and currently it has secured a five year contract to coach Msumbiji officials on good conduct in accounting and it expect to do the same in Malawi soon.

She argued accountants and auditors to look for international accounting tenders because that is where they will get enough money and also bring respect to the profession in the country.

Professor Temu further argued accountants and auditors to promote their profession by using Information Communication Technology (ICT) to move with the changing world.

“We are not suppose to allow the technology to be ahead of us because if we do so some people in this profession and some who are not accountants will take advantage and use the technology to do things unprofessionally but if we are competent in ICT no one will temper with our profession,” she said

Prof Temu Sylivia also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for appointing her a first female chairperson of the board since it was established in 50 years ago.

“I appreciate her trust in me and I promise to work hard to promote the profession and ensure that it is done professionally and we observe public interests,” she said

NBAA Director, CPA Pius Maneno said International Accounting Day has been marked every year.

He said since its establishment in 1972, NBAA has done tremendous job and it has managed to increase the number of accountants to 26,000 and managed to conduct auditing to 450 firms to know whether they adhere to standards and laws.

He said because of accounting competences in Tanzania, various countries are coming to learn best practices on accountancy adding that currently NBAA has five years contract with Mozambique to teach their officials the best practice in the field.

CPA Pius Maneno said with 50 years, NBAA has managed to own its building and it has also managed to construct center for accountant and auditors in Bunju known as APC.

“We have discussed various issues concerning our profession but we have agreed to continue to adhere to the code of ethics and profession guidelines we have also resolved to embrace the use of ICT in the next 50 years…currently all NBAA activities are conducted through ICT systems,” he said.

He said Africa recognizes that Tanzania is doing the best in accounting and also International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) in its 2021 report mentioned Tanzania and Nigeria as the leading countries in international financial standards.
