State’s update on TPA, DP-World deal

The GOVERNMENT has said that the Inter-governmental Agreement (IGA) on investment in the port areas between the Government through Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) and Dubai Port Company (DP-World) has already been signed.

Deputy Minister for Works and Transport, Atupele Mwakibete issued the statement in the Parliament in Dodoma Friday as he was reacting to Mlalo MP, Rashid Shangazi, who sought to know the implementation status of the deal.

Elaborating further, the Deputy Minister said the concluded deal lays the foundation for the two parties to start discussions about areas of investment.

“After the signing of the contract, the discussion will continue in accordance with the laws, regulations and procedures of the country, to ensure that the investment benefits the country,” he told Parliamentarians.

According to him, the State is optimistic that the discussion will reach its conclusion at the end of December, 2022.

In February, 2022, the Government through the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Port World Company (DP-World) – United Arab Emirates to pave the way for the latter to invest in port areas.

On October 25, 2022 the Government signed an Agreement with the Government of Dubai (Inter-Governmental Agreement – IGA).
