State promises to clear contractors’ outstanding 167bn/- debt

MWANZA: GOVERNMENT has promised to clear outstanding 167bn/- debt to both local and foreign contractors who implemented various projects in the country.

Minister of Works Mr Innocent Bashungwa revealed this on Wednesday when he was officiating a three-day training organized by the Contractors Registration Board (CRB).

According to Mr Bashungwa, the State has started servicing the debt by allocating a total of 70bn/-.

Out of 70bn/-, he added, 50bn/- allocated to pay local contractors while the remaining 20bn/- was set aside for foreign contractors.

He assured stakeholders that the State will finish paying the entire debt by June 2024.

The Minister asked contractors to discharge their duties diligently as he promised them cooperation from the government.

On his side, the CRB chairperson Eng Joseph Nyamhanga promised the Minister that the Board will cooperate with the government to achieve its various goals set by the Ministry of Works.
