THE Ministry of Land, Housing and Human Settlement Development threatened on Friday a possible retake of land ownership from stubborn land rent debtors who owe the state some 70bn/- in unpaid annual fee.
Now the government wants all tenants to clear their debts or risk losing their land titles. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Allan Kijazi said at the conference in Arusha the tenants have until the end of December to decide.
“They have to decide whether they should continue being tenants or have their titles retaken by the state. The government is offering a waiver of all the penalties,” he said, insisting “they need to pay their rent fee before the end of december.”
According to the PS the rent fee is a legal requirement. He called on public and private institutions to ensure they fulfill the legal requirement to avoid unnecessary confrontations.
