Stars eye perfect run vs Libya today

TAIFA Stars eye to stamp another success in their second match of the tri-nation international friendlies as they face Libya at Modern Stadium in Benghazi today.

The country’s envoys head into the game with confidence after defeating Uganda in their opening match at the same venue, hence it is an opportunity for Stars to claim a 100 percent run.

Simon Msuva netted the winner on the day to give his side a deserved victory against the Cranes who for a long time have been a thorn in fresh for the Tanzanian envoys.

So far, Stars are the only side who have claimed a victory  as Libya were held to a barren draw by Uganda in their opening  match.

In his remarks, Taifa Stars Assistant Coach Mecky Mexime has reiterated that so far, they are convinced with what they are seeing in the team saying players are responding well to the training.

“The most important thing we are doing now is to build patriotism among our players so that they should feel proud to fight for their country and this is extremely very important. We also encourage Tanzanians to love their team at all cost,” he said.

Again, Mexime highlighted that the two friendly matches will help the team’s technical bench, led by interim Head Coach Honour Janza, to understand well his players as they have not stayed with the team for a long time.

However, he also disclosed that most players in Taifa Stars squad are on injury list including Feisal Salum who could not make the Libya trip as he was not fully fit to take part in the matches.

“Slowly, the coach is getting clear picture of his team and beating Uganda in our first match was a boost to our players for them to believe that they can achieve a lot. They (players) had a great match versus Uganda until we sourced the vital win.

“We have an obligation to make sure that the team gets good results so that people can like it…to be honest, nobody can rally behind a side which fails to register tangible results,” he said.

Furthermore, Mexime reiterated that what they intend to do is to create a competitive national team such that each player should fight hard to earn an opportunity of being called to serve for the senior side.

Mexime replaced Shadrack Nsajigwa as the Assistant Coach for the senior team while Zambian Janza succeeded Kim Poulsen at the helm of the team.
