The Tanzania Sports Writers Association (TASWA) and the Institute of Public Relations Tanzania (IPRT) have signed a partnership agreement aimed at providing communication training for its members.
The signing of the cooperation agreement (MoU) took place in Dar es Salaam on Thursday involving senior officials of the two institutions, including IPRT Director William Kallaghe and TASWA Secretary General Alfred Lucas, as well as sports stakeholders, including journalists.
According to TASWA, the agreement will see sports journalists enhance their capacity towards a joint strategy of the two institutions in promoting and developing sports in the country.
The collaboration between IPRT and TASWA touches on various areas, such as special training in communication and leadership, which will engage a comprehensive training programme designed for top executives to enhance their leadership skills to build and sustain competitiveness in the sports sector.
This programme will focus on developing a proper understanding of ethics and skills at both the lower and upper levels to achieve institutional success goals.
Secondly, it is open training in communication and leadership, which will be specifically for Sports News Editors, clubs and sports association spokespersons, middle-level executives and managers.
Also included in the package is training for Sports Journalists and Analysts, this is a special training programme aimed at enhancing the capacity of Sports journalists, Senior Sports reporters, and Analysts.
The programme did not leave out women as they are as well going to have a programme for empowering women sports journalists in various areas such as leadership, communication, health and counselling, pre-retirement planning, post-retirement planning, and many other aspects.
Commenting on the development, IPRT’s Kallaghe said, “This collaboration represents a significant step in leveraging the power of effective communication and strong leadership towards achieving the growth and development of sports in the country. We believe that by working together with TASWA, we can achieve even better and more impactful results in the sports and economic development of our country.”
On his part, Alfred Lucas, the Secretary General of TASWA, said, “We are delighted to join forces with IPRT in realising this important strategy that will provide unique opportunities for sports journalists to enhance their capacity and knowledge in sports journalism. This partnership will not only strengthen the sports sector but also promote culture and art with quality and integrity within this industry.”
Through the agreement, IPRT and TASWA also plan to exchange ideas regularly and carry out joint programmes that align with their common vision of promoting and developing the entire sports system in Tanzania.
