Speaker orders MPs to clear their debts with TBA

NATIONAL Assembly Speaker, Dr Tulia Ackson

NATIONAL Assembly Speaker, Dr Tulia Ackson has directed Members of Parliament who are Tanzania Building Agency (TBA) tenants to pay their outstanding debts before they are evicted.

She said all the TBA indebted parliamentarians must pay their dues with immediate effect because they cause delays for the agency to proceed with other projects as planned.

She said TBA has submitted to her the names of the MPs who are among the rent defaulters, ordering them to clear their debts before they are evicted.

Dr Tulia issued the directives in Parliament following the supplementary question from Ms Asha Abdullah Juma (Special Seats-CCM) on what are the future plans of TBA in constructing residential houses especially in Dodoma.

“Most of the TBA houses are outdated and in bad shape especially in Dodoma, when will they be renovated for the safety of users” she questioned.

Responding, Dr Tulia said “TBA rent defaulters must clear their debts because I have a list of rent defaulters submitted to me by the agency,” she said.

Dr Tulia said the agency fails to undertake its activities due to the tenants’ reluctance to pay rent.

Earlier, Deputy Minister for Works and Transport, Mr Atupele Mwakibete said most of the debtors of TBA are public servants who contribute to the delay in executing other projects.

He underscored the need for the tenants to timely pay their monthly rent as it is the best for the TBA growth and construction of new houses to meet the market demands.

In his basic question, Usonge Hamad Juma (Chaani-CCM) wanted to know plans by TBA to construct houses for public servants in Zanzibar.

Mr Mwakibete said Zanzibar Building Agency (ZBA) was responsible for constructing residential houses for the public servants in isles.
