DAR ES SALAAM: A sombre mood engulfed Dar es Salaam on Friday afternoon when a plane carrying the body of the late Kigamboni MP and WHO Africa Region director-elect, Dr Faustine Ndugulile, landed at Julius Nyerere International Airport.
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Mussa Zungu, led top public officials, politicians, and family members in receiving the late Tanzanian health expert’s body.
Among the notable figures present at the airport were Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination) William Lukuvi, CHADEMA’s National Chairman Freeman Mbowe, and Kinondoni MPs Abbas Tarimba and Halima Mdee.
After its arrival, a motorcade escorted Dr Ndugulile’s body to Lugalo Military Hospital in Dar es Salaam for preservation until Monday, when top public officials and the general public will begin paying their last respects.

According to a statement issued by the National Assembly, the burial will take place on Tuesday at Mwongozo Cemetery in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.
On Monday (December 2, 2024), a requiem mass will be held at St. Immaculate Church in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
After the session, the body will be taken to Karimjee Grounds, where President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to lead mourners in paying their last respects.
The timetable seen by the Daily News confirms that the burial ceremony will be held on Tuesday in Kigamboni.
Dr Faustine Ndugulile passed away early on November 27, 2024 while undergoing treatment in India.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Tulia Ackson confirmed the news in a statement shared on the Parliament’s social media platforms.
