AN innovation lab and startup accelerator – Smartlab, hosted its fifth edition of the ‘corporate unwind’ event that has a continuous goal to create a platform for discussions to transform Tanzania’s innovation ecosystem.
Smartlab is the innovation wing of Smart Africa Group (SAG) that aims at empowering communities of learners, startups, and corporations to develop groundbreaking solutions that impact Tanzania, Africa, and beyond.
The fifth edition of the event featured, among others, the Managing Director of Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), Mr Daniel Moran.
The session was attended by various stakeholders including young people, startup founders, professionals, business people, and members of the technology and innovation community.
It was a colourful occasion where those in attendance listened, learned, shared, and connected with the top-level businesspersons who are a leading light and a trailblazer in the industry.
Asked on how TBL has been able to come up with products that are preferred by consumers, Mr Moran responded; “We use a lot of scientific methods to create brands that customers love.”
He reiterated that customer feedback is the art behind understanding what works best for their market but leverages on technology, innovation, and scientific methods to produce the best drinks.
During the event, Mr Moran had a word of advice for budding entrepreneurs and startups; “Do not get too attached if it does not work. In business, products flop and brands fail in the market. Use your emotional intelligence in amplifying new features that are loved by the end user”.
At the same occasion, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SAG Group, Mr Edwin Bruno, who was also the moderator of the event, put a spotlight on the technological advancements that have increased opportunities for innovation.
Mr Bruno singled out Accelerator 100+; an AB InBev and partner’s initiative that is committed to finding solutions for some of the most pressing environmental and social challenges facing the world at present.
During the session, he rallied the audience by reminding them that the responsibility to resolve the challenges facing society today do not rest with one single entity but a collective effort.
He thus called upon top management leaders and experts to be ready and willingly to share their knowledge and experiences in the upcoming ‘corporate unwind’ events in future.
