Slovakia targets Tanzania opportunities

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has welcomed Slovak investors to explore Tanzania’s vast investment opportunities in key sectors, including manufacturing, agro-processing and renewable energy, as Slovakia opens its embassy in Dar es Salaam.
Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) Board Chairman, Ambassador Dr Aziz Mlima extended the invitation recently during the official opening of the Slovak Embassy in Dar es Salaam, highlighting high-growth sectors available for European investors.
Amb Mlima said Tanzania offers diverse investment opportunities across manufacturing, agro-processing, mining and mineral beneficiation, renewable energy, transport and logistics, tourism, healthcare, information and communication technology, infrastructure development and the blue economy.
“We therefore welcome Slovak investors and enterprises to explore the numerous opportunities available in Tanzania.
We believe Slovakia’s expertise in advanced manufacturing, engineering, technology, innovation, energy solutions and industrial development can complement Tanzania’s development priorities and contribute significantly to our shared economic aspirations,” he said.
He noted that Tanzania offers a unique combination of political stability, strategic geographical location, abundant natural resources, improving infrastructure and access to a regional market of more than 500 million consumers through the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Amb Mlima said current Slovak investment in Tanzania stands at 17.3 million US dollars (over 45bn/-), creating 210 jobs, reflecting growing economic cooperation between the two countries.
He added that as Tanzania promotes local manufacturing, industrial parks and Special Economic Zones (SEZs), collaboration with Slovak companies could support the development of automotive assembly plants, production of vehicle components and spare parts, skills development, technology transfer and integration of Tanzanian firms into global automotive value chains.
“Such partnerships would not only contribute to job creation and industrial growth but also strengthen Tanzania’s position as an emerging manufacturing and logistics hub serving regional markets across East and Southern Africa,” he said.

On the opening of the embassy, Amb Mlima commended the government and people of the Slovak Republic for the diplomatic milestone.
“This significant milestone reflects the growing friendship, mutual trust and expanding cooperation between our two countries,” he said.
He added that the embassy represents more than a diplomatic presence, describing it as a symbol of a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
“It is a clear indication of Slovakia’s confidence in Tanzania as an important partner in Africa and a gateway to regional markets,” he said.
Amb Mlima expressed optimism that the embassy will serve as a catalyst for stronger economic engagement, increased trade and investment, enhanced business-to-business partnerships and deeper people-to-people ties between the two countries.
He further noted that the event comes at a crucial time as Tanzania continues to implement economic reforms under the leadership of President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan.
He said the government remains committed to improving the investment climate, facilitating private sector growth and creating a competitive environment for both domestic and foreign investors.
Citing TISEZA, he assured investors that the institution is committed to providing efficient support throughout the investment process.
“Through our One-Stop Facilitation Centre and the development of Special Economic Zones, we continue to provide a conducive environment that enables businesses to establish, operate and expand successfully,” he said.
The embassy opening was followed by the Tanzania–Slovakia Business and Investment Forum, which provided a platform for business leaders, investors and institutions from both countries to engage in dialogue, exchange experiences, establish partnerships and identify concrete investment opportunities.
Director of Bilateral Trade Cooperation at Slovakia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Ms Daniela Koladova, said the Slovak delegation included 35 businessmen and investors.
