Six people pass away after being hit by vehicle

SIX people are confirmed dead and 16 others hospitalised after they were hit by a vehicle at Lumala Primary School when they were jogging in the margin of the road in Ilemela District of Mwanza region.
The Acting Mwanza Regional Police Commander Gideon Msuya, confirmed the occurrence of the accident on Saturday morning when the group of youths who were exercising along Sabasaba Road heading to Kiseke area in the district, were unfortunately hit by a Toyota Hilux double cabin vehicle.
“Police Force has started looking for the driver of the car with registration number T 476 DZL Toyota Hilux double cabin, who abandoned the car at one of petrol stations and ran away,” he said.
He added that the 12 victims are getting treatments at Sekou Toure Hospital while four others who have been seriously injured have been transferred to Bugando Zonal Referral Hospital for intensive care.
He said that bodies of the deceased are preserved at Sekou Toure and that processes to identify and let their relatives take the same for burial had been organised by the Police force and the hospital, adding that they were underway.
Mr Msuya named the deceased as Makongoro Mayanda, Peter Fredrick, Shadrack Safari, Selestine Safari, Hamis Wariri and Aman Matinde.
Speaking about the accident, Mwanza District Commissioner (DC), Mr Hassan Masala sent condolences to the deceased’s families, urging them and the general public to keep in prayers so that they get eternal rest and for quick recovery for those who sustained injuries, so that they continue with their daily duties.
