Singida, Simba lock horns in league encounter
SINGIDA: SINGIDA Big Stars and Simba face off in today’s high-octane Mainland Premier League match at the CCM Liti Stadium in Singida. Both Singida Big Stars and Simba aim to continue their winning ways.
A win for Simba would bring it to a record five consecutive wins, while a win for Singida Big Stars would reinforce its consistency.
At a pre-match briefing on Saturday, Simba Coach Roberto Oliveira said their number one priority is to win and get maximum points in today’s match.
“We are here to win and maintain a perfect record. We are aware that we are facing strong opponents. We respect them and our priority is to win the match,” insisted the Brazilian coach.
It will be Oliveira’s 16th league match. He is yet to suffer a defeat after winning 13 games and two draws.
On his part, Singida Big Stars Assistant Coach, Thabo Thenong said a fresh rotation of players is likely for today’s match.
“We have a deep squad and as such, a freshness rotation is important because even players who played well in our past games may not have the fitness for another 90 minutes.
“To our Singida fans, we appreciate their support. They have been rallying behind their team all along and we promise them a good performance with passion and we are going to fight for them.
“We cannot be in control of the results but we can be in control of the team spirit and individual performance of each player and gradually, with time, our team will become stronger,” he said.
They recorded a 1-0 success against Mtibwa Sugar in their previous match at Manungu Complex in Morogoro as Elvis Rupia slotted in the solo goal of the match to give his side their first win of the season.
The other league match today sees Tanzania Prisons welcoming Mtibwa Sugar at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya, with each team searching for their first win of the season.
