Singida sees advancement in reliable power supply

SINGIDA: THE Mayor of Singida Municipality, Geofrey Mdama, has said that electricity has continued to serve as a key driver of development in the Singida Region, noting that it has significantly contributed to expanding economic opportunities, boosting the industrial sector, and attracting investment.
Mdama made the remarks on February 12, 2026, on behalf of the Singida District Commissioner, while officiating the opening of a working session between the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) and local government chairpersons, ward executive officers, and councilors of the Singida Municipal Council.
He commended TANESCO for recognizing grassroots leaders as important stakeholders in educating citizens about electricity projects and services, emphasizing that their close relationship with the community facilitates communication and the implementation of development initiatives.
Mdama also expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating funds for the implementation of electricity projects, noting that the initiatives have played a significant role in accelerating national development.

On his part, the Acting TANESCO Regional Manager for Singida, Engineer Boniface Shitindi, said the meeting aimed to equip the leaders with knowledge and a broader understanding of the company’s operations so that they can effectively relay the information to the public through meetings and other community platforms.
Some local government chairpersons, ward executive officers, and councilors expressed satisfaction with the session, saying it had provided them with greater clarity on electricity connection costs, the use of smart meters, the importance of protecting electricity infrastructure, and the benefits of affordable clean cooking energy through electricity.
The meeting is part of TANESCO’s ongoing efforts to educate the public on the progress of electricity projects, service improvements, and the proper and safe use of electrical energy.
