DAR ES SALAAM: SINGIDA Fountain Gate have shifted their focus to the Mainland Premier League after completing Mapinduzi Cup campaign.
They aim to finish in the top three positions, which would increase their chances of excelling in inter-club competitions such as the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
The club’s Communication Officer, Hussein Massanza, revealed this on Saturday, mentioning that they recently returned to Dar es Salaam after being eliminated from the Mapinduzi Cup competition by Simba.
A hard-fought match that was staged at the New Amaan Stadium saw the two sides sharing spoils following a 1-1 draw that forced the two sides to settle their difference through penalties, where Simba won 3-2.
“Our 2024 target is to finish among the top three teams. We are confident to meet the goal for we have a good squad,” the coach explained.
Singida are currently in fifth place in the Mainland Premier League, as they have collected 20 points in 14 matches, winning five, drawing the same number and loosing four games.
The club issued a word of appreciation to the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) for allowing them to participate in the 2024 Mapinduzi Cup.
During the competitions, Singida Fountain Gate showed great performance, although last year they managed to finish as finalists.
In last year’s final, Mlandege clinched the title after beating Singida 2-1.
Other than the team’s excellence in this year’s competition their player Elvis Rupia managed to score five goals.
However, Singida are under Coach Thabo Senong and his Assistant Nizar Khalifan after they parted ways with their Head Coach Brazilian Ricardo Ferreira after spending two months with the team.
