TANZANIAN marathoner Alphonce Simbu is engaged in intensive training ahead of the World Athletics Championships to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19th to 27th this year.
Speaking to the ‘Daily News,’ Simbu expressed great confidence in his preparations and promised to perform well in the global level athletics event.
“I would like to thank my sponsors, despite facing challenges in my preparations. I am fully aware of the great responsibility I have as a sole Tanzanian envoy in the championship, and I will fight hard to ensure I bring honour and positive recognition to my country,” he said.
Adding, he said with his experience, he aims to bring joy and pride to all Tanzanians and put Tanzania on the world of athletics through his achievements.
“I will strive to improve myself continuously and compete with top athletes worldwide. I know the competition will be tough, but that has given me even more motivation to work hard and achieve my goal of winning gold medal,” he said.
On the side of the Tanzanian Athletics Federation (AT) spokesperson, Lwiza John said that the federation has fulfilled its responsibility by submitting the budget for Alphonce Simbu’s preparations to the Tanzania Sports Council (NSC).
“We expect Simbu will continue to give his best and perform well in these international competitions.
The sports council and the Athletics body (AT) can play a crucial role in supporting and enabling him to achieve his goal of winning the gold medal,” she said.
Additionally, John said, “We wish him all the best in these championships, and we have great hope in his success in the world of athletics. We will closely follow and support him on his journey.”
