YOUNG Africans and Simba have been eliminated in the ongoing Under-20 Premier League after succumbing to defeat in all their three group-stage matches.
Yanga finished the campaign at the bottom of Group B with one point sourced from one draw after scoring two goals and conceding five in their three back-to-back fixtures.
Their last match against Polisi Tanzania elapsed in a 1-1 draw which earned them one point, while they lost in two previous clashes.
Simba also finished at the bottom of Group D with a point in the bag after conceding three goals and never managed to score a goal.
They lost 2-0 in their last match of group D against Azam to pack their belongings and find a way back home, aiming to do well in the upcoming edition.
Meanwhile, the quarterfinal matches unfold today at Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam to establish four teams that will cruise to the competition’s semifinals.
The opening clash will see Geita Gold facing Mbeya City before witnessing Dodoma Jiji take on Kagera Sugar and, later, Mtibwa Sugar will interface Coastal Union, whereas Azam will welcome Tanzania Prisons in the last encounter.
Azam are the only side that made it to the last eight without conceding a goal meaning that they have a solid defence capable to diffuse danger imposed by attackers of the opposite side.
Also, Azam, together with Mtibwa Sugar and Geita Gold, are the three sides that excelled in winning all their three matches to top their respective groups with 9 points in the bag.
“So far, I am convinced with the trend of my team and some of these players, you will see them joining the senior side soon,” said Azam coach Mohamed Badru.
