Simba ready for Ahly do or die clash
TANZANIA: TANZANIA’S Simba FC is gearing up for a high-stakes clash against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly today, following a narrow 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals.
Despite playing in front of a roaring 60,000-capacity crowd at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam last Friday, the Reds failed to secure victory against the competition’s defending champions, Al Ahly.
Ahmed Kouka’s early goal sealed the victory for the Egyptian giants, who adeptly absorbed Simba’s relentless pressure throughout the encounter.
Despite their inability to find the back of the net, Simba’s persistent attacks kept Al Ahly pinned in their half for significant periods.
The two teams’ interface in the second leg quarter-finals match of the CAF Champions League (CAF CL) at the Cairo International Stadium today in Egypt.
As they head into today’s match, anything is possible for Simba, who are eager to stage a comeback and surprise the defending champions at their own backyard.
A 2-0 victory would be a favourable outcome for the Reds, providing them with an advantage through away goals.
The Reds are determined to break their curse of failing to reach the CAF Champions League semi-finals for the past four seasons.
Despite the disappointing result last week, Simba Head Coach, Abdelhak Benchikha, remains resolute about his team’s prospects in the upcoming second leg in Cairo.
“We have not given up. We want to use the second leg away in Cairo. As tough as it may be, we will push to the end,” stated Benchikha, showing optimism and determination.
However, Benchikha also offered apologies to Simba fans, acknowledging Al Ahly’s efficiency in capitalising on their limited chances.
As the anticipation builds for today’s showdown, Simba FC is prepared to leave it all on the field in pursuit of a historic victory. The stage is set for an electrifying battle between two titans of African football.
