Simba Queens’ title-race faces stiff challenge
WITH two matches before the Women’s Premier league climaxes, the race for the league’s throne remains a jigsaw puzzle.
Until this week, it is a three-horse title race as all eyes are on Simba who lead by two points ahead of JKT Queens and four against Fountain Gate Princess.
Simba, who temporarily leapfrogged JKT Queens on Tuesday to claim the league’s top spot, have collected 42 points from 17- game outings.
However, JKT Queens who have a game in hand, play today against Fountain Gate in a bid to reclaim the pilot seat.
Simba Queens took command of the table after beating the Boabab Queens of Dodoma 2-0 with goals from Jentri Shikangwa and Joelle Bukuru that earned Simba maximum points and the leadership.
JKT Queens have carved 40 points, while Fountain Gate Princess, who are third, have banked 38 points. Both have played 16 matches.
The match expects to be exciting as the both sides are keen claim maximum points, with JKT Queens holding the unbeaten record this season.
They have won twelve games and drawn four times. Their opponents have won 12 matches, drawn twice and lost twice.
While the leaders, Simba Queens, have won 13 matches, drawn three and lost once.
After Simba Queen’s victory on Tuesday, Head Coach Charles Lukula said they believe they can defend their title despite acknowledging a tough season.
He described, “The match against Baobab was difficult at first, and the players were under pressure, but I asked them to calm down, and we won.
“The league is so tough this season; all teams are well prepared, and if you get three points, you thank God.
He foresaw the champion will be known in the last day.
“We still have a chance to defend the title; looking forward to the game between Fountain and JKT because there is a team that may not come out with all three points, and we continue to win. It has shown that we are still fighting for the title,” said Lukula.
