Simba Queens outsmart Yanga

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA Queens reaffirmed their dominance over arch-rivals Yanga Princess with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the KMC Complex yesterday, a result that handed Yanga first defeat of the season.

The loss followed three consecutive draws for the Jangwani-based side, marking a frustrating start to their campaign.

A thrilling encounter between the two biggest clubs in Tanzanian women’s football, saw Simba bounce back in style after their defeat to Yanga in the Women’s Community Shield last month.

That match, which ended in a 1-1 draw before Yanga triumphed 4-3 in a penalty shootout, seemed to fuel Simba’s hunger for revenge and they delivered a gritty performance to claim all three points.

From the kick-off, Simba looked the more aggressive side, pressing forward with their trademark fast-paced attacking play.

However, Yanga’s defence stood firm, clearing everything that came their way. Despite their best efforts, Simba struggled to break down the well-organised Yanga defence, with the first half ending in a tie.

The second half, however, saw Simba adapt their approach and find a way past Yanga’s resistance. Just two minutes after the restart, a precise cross into the penalty box was met by the foot of Vivian Corazone, who calmly tapped the ball past Yanga’s goalkeeper to put Simba ahead in the 47th minute of the game.

The goal was the breakthrough the Queens had been looking for and ultimately proved to be the match-winner.

With the win, Simba Queens maintain their perfect start to the season, topping the league table with 12 points from four games.

Their impressive record continues as they look to continue to show their prowess and extend their lead at the summit.

On the other hand, Yanga Princess fell to eighth place, with just three points from four matches, after a disappointing start to the season. Their inability to get past their aggressive rivals has left them with much work to do if they want to become champions or anywhere near there this year.
