Simba Queens extend lead as WPL title race heats up

THE 2024/25 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season continues to deliver thrilling action, with defending champions Simba Queens maintaining their dominance after a narrow 1-0 victory over Ceasiaa Queens on Tuesday.

With the win, Simba Queens remain unbeaten at the top of the table with 34 points from 12 matches, boasting an impressive record of 11 wins and one draw.

Their closest challengers, JKT Queens, kept the pressure on with a commanding 12-0 demolition of Mlandizi Queens.

The emphatic victory sees them stay second with 29 points from 11 games, having scored a staggering 44 goals while conceding just three.

Meanwhile, Yanga Princess solidified their grip on third place with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Mashujaa Queens. With 21 points, they remain in contention, hoping for slip-ups from the league leaders.

In another Tuesday fixture, Bunda Queens secured a crucial 4-1 victory over Gets Program, moving up to ninth place with nine points.

Gets Program remain level on points but lags behind on goal difference. At the bottom of the table, Mlandizi Queens are in deep trouble following their heavy defeat against JKT Queens.

With just one point from 12 matches and a leaguehigh 64 goals conceded, their survival hopes are fading fast. The mid-table battle remains fierce, with Mashujaa Queens (18 points), Alliance Girls (11 points) and Fountain Gate Princess (10 points) all fighting for stronger finishes.

Ceasiaa Queens and Bunda Queens, with 10 and nine points respectively, are also battling to steer clear of relegation danger. The action continues tomorrow as Alliance Girls face Fountain Gate Princess at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza, with both teams eager to climb further up the standings.
