SIMBA Queens Head Coach Charles Lukula has envisioned a tough season in the Women’s Premier League as his Yanga Princess counterpart, Sebastian Nkoma cherished a 1-1 draw in the Ladies derby on Thursday.
The two sides shared spoils in a sparkling derby at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam as the march towards the championship escalates.
The Nigerian import Chiuma Wogu and substitute Vivian Aquino balanced the equation on the day as the former opened the score sheet for Yanga Princess shortly before the half-time while the latter responded with a beautiful dropping ball effort early in the second half.
“What I can say is that the league this season is going to be very difficult because all teams have assembled competitive squads ready to battle for maximum points.
“Every team is looking forward to winning the title at the end of the season and here is where the tricky part originates, but we are going to keep on fighting to the end,” said Lukula who steered his first women’s derby in the country.
On his part, Nkoma for Yanga Princess reiterated that despite staying with his new club for a brief period, he was convinced with what his charges showcased on the day.
“We played very well in both halves and if I had spent a long time with the team, I am sure that we could have performed much better than this but I am totally impressed and I see a bright future in this squad,” he said.
Again, Nkoma said he was satisfied with the results saying their game plan was to grab maximum points or withdraw one point from the encounter.
With the result, both Simba Queens and Yanga Princess have collected four points in three matches after winning one game, losing one match and drawing the other fixture.
Until now, Fountain Gate Princess lead the women’s league table with 9 points having won all their three opening games and are the only side enjoying 100 per cent start of the campaign.
Alliance Girls and JKT Queens fill the second and third slots with 7 points apiece whereas Simba Queens, Yanga Princess and Baobab Queens have bagged 4 points to accommodate fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.
Ceasiaa Queens sit on seventh slot with 3 points while Amani Queens, Mkwawa Queens and The Tigers Queens have each generated one point to accommodate eighth, ninth and tenth places respectively.
