DAR ES SALAAM: JEAN Ahoua’s dramatic last-minute penalty secured crucial three points for Simba SC in their 1-0 victory over JKT Tanzania at KMC Complex yesterday.
The game seemed destined for a stale- mate until the final moments, when Simba were awarded a penalty following a foul by JKT defender, who pulled the shirt of Shomary Kapombe just before the ball reached him in the box in the dying seconds of the match.
The penalty call came as a shock to many, but it was a moment of confusion for JKT’s goalkeeper Yakoub Suleiman, who had otherwise been impressive throughout the match
.Despite his stellar performance, Suleiman misjudged Ahoua’s spot-kick, diving in the wrong direction as the ball flew past him into the net, sending the Simba bench into raptures.
The match itself had been an engaging contest with both teams showcasing resil- ient performances.
JKT Tanzania, despite the defeat, put up a strong fight with their defence holding firm for most of the game.
They created a few chances in the first half, but Simba were clearly the more dominant side, especially in attack. Simba’s pressure was relentless, particularly on the wings, as they created several opportunities.
In the 17th minute, Simba’s Leo- nel Ateba missed a header from a well-delivered cross by Valentino Nouma.
A few minutes later, Elie Mpanzu’s free kick was denied by Su- leiman in a fine save.
With the win, Simba maintained their spot at the top of the league, now with 37 points from 14 matches.
JKT Tanzania, on the other hand, remain in 8th place with 19 points from 15 matches, tied with Kigoma side Mashujaa, who sit just one place above them.
