Simba held, fail to claim helm

SIMBA failed to reclaim the Premier League’s pilot following their 1-1 draw with Mbeya City at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya on Wednesday.

The draw has earned Simba 28 points, a point inferior to the leaders Young Africans who continue to command the league run with 29 points while Azam are placed second also with 29 points.

Singida Big Stars who defeated KMC 1-0 at Liti Stadium continue to grab the fourth position with 21 points.

Simba were the first to  open the goal account in early in the 14th minute through Mzamiru Yassin while Mbeya City equalised in the 78th minute through Tarikh Seif Kiakala.

Simba were the first to raid Mbeya City goal in the 2nd minute when Mzamiru Yassin capitalised on Mbeya City defensive errors, but his shot wide.

Mzamiru Yassin scored the opener in the 14th minute and the goal remained until the end of the first half

Both teams started the second half strongly, but it was Mbeya City who benefited this time when Juma  Shemvuni sent the cross to Kiakala  who slammed the ball into the yawning net.

At Liti Stadium in Singida, hosts Singida Big Stars beat KMC 1-0 with Meddie Kagere scoring the winner in the 40 minute.

Meanwhile, reports Benjamin Ben said that Azam are targeting to seal a seventh straight NBC Premier League victory as they entertain Coastal Union in their last match of November at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam this Sunday.

A win on the day will take Azam to 32 points and uphold their unbeaten form to seven fixtures as they intensify their splint to win back the league silverware which has been missed by the club for a long time.

It has been a good ride so far this season for Azam ever since Kally Ongala and Aggrey Moris were awarded the sword to lead the club and they have been  winning a game after game.

From 13 matches, they have played, Azam have won nine encounters, stamped two draws and concedes two losses to collect 29 points.

Most importantly, they have pocketed four points from the league’s giants Young Africans and Simba after recording a 2-2 draw versus Yanga and a 1-0 victory over Simba making them the first team to give the Reds bitter pill this term.

With these achievements, if they do not run out of gas, then the marathon for the championship is going to be interesting than ever before and perhaps making the new champs known on the last day of the campaign.
