Simba eye hyper-class squad

SIMBA have maintained that they are set to tighten up the squad by bringing on board fresh legs to re-create a lethal team for Premier League and CAF Champions League (CAF CL) success.

The Msimbazi Street Reds are in group C of the Champions League together with Raja Casablanca (Morocco), Horoya (Guinea) and Vipers (Uganda) with every team looking determined to sail into the quarters.

However, in his remarks on Thursday in Dar es Salaam, Simba’s Media and Communication Manager Ahmed Ally reiterated that they will make full use of the mini-transfer window to re-charge the team ahead of the busy schedule.

“To be honest, this is not Simba we all know about. There is something lacking and the only way to get back to our usual rhythm is by ensuring that we sign quality players with success-hungry and ready to offer our club required services.

“At the moment, we have scored more Premier League goals than any other team but we are not satisfied…we have conceded less goals than any other side and we want to continue conceding less goals as such; the only way is to re-boost it,” he said.

Commenting on their three champions league opponents, Ally said the fact that they have never met before in any competition simply define that the games will not be easy but insisted that they will prepare for them.

“We know how hard it is to play in Morocco, Guinea and Uganda but as always, these are the kind of matches we like to engage in and we have our own strategies on how to achieve them.

“Our common target of ensuring that we win home matches remain unchanged meaning that bagging nine points from the home venue will give us a good advantage to sail through into the next phase,” he said.

According to the available fixtures, Simba will launch their campaign by visiting Horoya FC of Guinea between February 10th to 11th before hosting Moroccan side Raja Casablanca at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam between February 17th to 18th.

Then between February 24th to 25th, the Reds will trip to Uganda to face Vipers before hosting them in the city between March 4th to 7th.

Thereafter, the country’s envoys will welcome Horoya between March 17th to 18th before finishing their mission against Raja Casablanca in Morocco between March 31st to April 1st.

The Msimbazi giants, through their outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Barbara Gonzalez, have   already indicated that their intention is to step into Champions League semis.
