THE UK funded ‘Shule Bora’ project has recorded numerous achievements in one year of its implementation in areas of early marriages and children pregnancies.
This was revealed recently by Coast Regional Education Officer (REO) Ms Sarah Mlaki during a training conducted to raise journalists’ awareness about the project.
‘Shule Bora’ project aims at creating friendly and safe environment for students in pre and primary government schools in the country.
“In its one year of implementation the project has recorded numerous achievements in education sector especially in challenges which are facing girls such as early marriages and pregnancies,” she said.
A seven- year project which was launched in 2021 is implemented in nine regions in the country including Coast Region, Kigoma, Dodoma, Tanga, Mara, Singida, Rukwa, Simiyu and Katavi.
It focuses on four major areas which are Learning, Teaching, Involvement and Building of systems with the aim of uplifting education status.
“We are very grateful for our region being among the beneficiaries of the project because we are still working to address various challenges in education sector. To achieve our goal, we need more follow ups and awareness and we can do it better by involving media personnel “, she stated.
” Since the introduction of this programme in our region, we are seeing communities responding more positively by participating in improving education environment for the children unlike before… cases of child pregnancies, marriages and truancy are starting to decline”, she said
Earlier, Project’s Communications Officer Mr Raymond Kanyambo said that the project will be working directly with the government’s authorities at Regional and Council levels as well as schools in the mentioned regions which have more challenges in education sector in the country.
The project is expected to cost 89 million UK Pounds upon completion which is equivalent to 271bn/-.
