Shime wants better scoring, defence
TUNISIA: SERENGETI Girls’ Coach, Bakari Shime, has commended his team for a thrilling 5-3 win against Morocco at the UNAF Girls Under-17 tournament held at Ariana Stadium in Tunisia.
Despite the impressive performance, Shime pointed out areas that need improvement, particularly in refining scoring accuracy and shoring up defensive flaws.
“I am happy with the win, but overall I am not convinced with the way they played because we lacked efficiency to score many goals especially in the first half.
“In the first half, we com mitted silly mistakes which led us to concede two easy goals as such; we were trailing 2-1 before making it level (2-2).
The three goals we conceded were due to bad day at work by our goalkeeper…of course she is a competent goalie but today (Thursday), she was not at her best and this is an alarm to her to improve,” he said.
In a match that show cased both offensive prowess and defensive vulnerabilities, Shime’s side secured a second consecutive victory after a 4-1 win against Egypt in their opening fixture.
The team’s back-to-back triumphs have set a positive tone for the campaign.
Looking forward, the Serengeti Girls are set to face hosts Tunisia in the third group stage match today at the same venue.
With their sights set on extending the winning streak, the team is determined to make history by overcoming the North African giants and solidifying their position in the tournament.
“In the second half, we managed to use well some of the scoring opportunities we made thereby netting three goals and this enabled us to take full command of the game until the end”.
“But we have a task to ask ourselves on the performance we showcased so that we should improve in our next game against Tunisia of which we also need to win,” Shime remarked.
Mwatima Mwarabu and Winfrida Gerald scored a brace each while Yasinta Joseph contributed one goal to help Serengeti Girls disappoint Morocco with the sweet win.

Shime said he was particularly impressed with the win, but not the way his side performed throughout the encounter.
He continued: “The good thing is that we have scored nine goals in two matches which are remarkable in football, and I congratulate my players for this achievement so far in the tournament.”
Interestingly, during their 4-1 victory over Egypt, Mwatima also netted twice meaning that she has scored four goals in two games while Yasinta and Winfrida provided a goal apiece on the day.
