Shime applauds Twiga Stars

DAR ES SALAAM: TWIGA Stars Head Coach, Bakari Shime, has commended his players following their impressive 2-0 victory over Uganda in the CECAFA Women’s Senior Championship at Azam Complex on Thursday evening.
The win marks the team’s third consecutive triumph in the five-nation tournament, having previously thrashed South Sudan 4-0 in their opener and followed up with a commanding 6-0 win against Burundi. Crucially, Twiga Stars are yet to concede a single goal in the competition.
With the latest victory, Tanzania’s national women’s side sit top of the standings with nine points, level with Kenya but ahead on goal difference.
Speaking after the match, Coach Shime praised the resilience and determination of his squad, admitting that the clash against Uganda was one of their most challenging yet.
“Uganda have always been a strong opponent, and today was no different,” said Shime. “They have a solid defence and it wasn’t easy to break them down. My players had to dig deep and stay focused throughout. I’m very proud of how they executed the game plan.”

Shime highlighted that pace and pressure were key components of their success, allowing them to penetrate Uganda’s defensive lines and secure the two goals that sealed the win.
“We knew from the start that we had to press high and maintain our tempo,” he added. “The speed at which we moved the ball and created chances made the difference. The ladies gave their all, and it paid off.”
With one match remaining in the roundrobin tournament, the Twiga Stars are now firm favourites to progress to the final. However, Shime remains cautious and focused.
“There’s still work to be done. We must remain disciplined and continue building on this momentum.”
Twiga Stars will face Kenya in a decisive fixture expected to determine the tournament’s top contender.
Following Thursday’s results at the CECAFA Women’s Senior Championship, the latest standings reflect a tight race for the top spots between Tanzanian and Kenyan ladies who are tied with nine points but Tanzania are superior by goal average.
Uganda currently sit third on the table with three points, level with Burundi, who are fourth, but ahead on goal difference.
