THE Tanzania Paralympic Committee (TPC) has extended its congratulations to Paralympian Hilmy Shawwal for securing sixth place in the Wheelchair Racing T54 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Shawwal, representing Tanzania as the sole athlete in the event, recorded a time of 16.08 in his heat, falling short of advancing to the semi-finals.

TPC General Secretary, Vincent Kaduma, praised Shawwal’s performance, highlighting it as a source of national pride. “Shawwal’s achievement is a significant milestone for our country.

“He faced strong competitors with more experience and his performance is commendable.

We should encourage him to continue striving for excellence in future Paralympic Games,” Kaduma said.

Kaduma noted that Shawwal’s sixth-place finish in his debut paralympic appearance is a promising sign of his potential.

“His performance this year suggests a bright future ahead.

It’s important for Tanzanians to continue supporting him as he grows in his career,” Kaduma noted.

Additionally, Kaduma revealed that the TPC is planning to introduce wheelchair racing programmes in Tanzania.

The initiative aims to provide more opportunities for paralympic athletes to train and compete, further strengthening the country’s presence in the sport.
