SEVERAL people, including an engineer with Bukoba Water and Sewerage Authority (BUWASA), have been reported dead in a stampede at Kyakailabwa Agricultural Grounds, a few kilometres from Bukoba town.
BUWASA Executive Director Mr John Sirati identified the deceased as engineer Kuboja Sumuni, who was also a production and logistics officer.
“We have been saddened by the sudden death of Engineer Sumuni who was among our best staff members. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
Efforts to contact the Kagera Regional Police Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Blasius Chatanda proved futile as he was reported to be outside his office for Uhuru Torch Race activities.
Meanwhile, the Uhuru Torch entered its second day in Kagera Region yesterday by inspecting and inaugurating projects in Muleba and Bukoba Municipal Councils.
While in Muleba District on Tuesday the Uhuru Torch inaugurated a seven-kilometre tarmac road in Muleba Township and also inaugurated a water project to benefit over 5,000 residents at Magata Ward.
While, in Bukoba Municipal Council the Uhuru Torch inaugurated a water project at Ijuganyondo Ward and was expected to be raced in several wards before settling for a hectic night at Mayunga stadium.
Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC), Fatma Mwassa on Tuesday led hundreds of residents to receive the Uhuru Torch at Nyakabango village, in Muleba District that crossed from Geita Region.
While in Kagera, the Uhuru Torch will inspect, inaugurate and lay foundation stone at 57 projects to cost a total of 26.3bn/- and will be raced for 1,200 kilometres.
