Serengeti Girls keen to see off Canada

SERENGETI Girls face Canada in their group D last assignment of the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup at D Y Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai, India today.
The brave girls are searching for the second back to back victory in the finals after upsetting France 2-1 in their previous match which enabled them to revive hopes of making it to the knockout stage.
Diana Mnally and Christer Bahera were on target to help their side emerge victors and pocket vital three points, the team’s first maximum points to be annexed at the world cup platform.
The win has helped a lot to instill a sense of confidence to players which is going to guide them to do well against Canada in order to pocket six points from two outings.
Beating France was a good response from Tanzania who prior to the game succumbed to a 4-0 defeat from Japan as the latter dictated terms to record the massive win on the day.
However, Canada are still searching for their first triumph as they were held to a 1-1 draw against France in their opening fixture before going down 4-0 to Japan in their second duel.
Head Coach Bakari Shime has insisted that his squad is well polished for today’s match saying a win will be very important in their quest to proceed further into the competition.
He is therefore tasked for another challenge knowing in advance that beating Canada will be a breakthrough to step into the knockout category making it a remarkable achievement for the country’s envoys.
The other group D match today witness France taking on leaders Japan with the latter already qualified for the next phase and are looking to stamp a third consecutive victory.
As it stands in group D, Japan leads with six points, seconded by Tanzania with three points while France and Canada fills third and fourth slots with one point apiece.
